June started with the end of school for the kids and the end of an era for us and our adopted (not really) daughter Katlyn Doughty. You see Katlyn started baby sitting for us regularly when she was 12 years old and now she is all grown up and in college. With a couple of years under her belt studying to be a teacher she made a bold move and went looking for a job more closely related to her chosen profession. It wasn’t long till someone else found her as talented as we do and she now has a new job. She quit her job with the local veterinarian and unfortunately we lost a super babysitter. We wish her continued success because she certainly deserves it. Good Luck Katlyn, we miss you!
June was also the month for pet sitting. Good friends of ours, actually there were 2 families, went on vacation at the same time and we volunteered to baby sit the pets. It was the kids who agreed to it although we new that most of the responsibility was going to be shared by 2 people, the adults! We spent the week at a friends house with 3 of their dogs, while at the same time we took turns taking care of the other pets. All in total there were 6 Dogs, 2 Cats, 1 Rabbit, 1 Guinea Pig, 1 Bird, 1 Rat, and 3 Gerbils for 1 whole week. Oh my…
June was also the month for another graduation. This time is was Wendy’s niece Carly. About every year Wendy’s side of the family all gets together and this year it was for the graduation party and it was also her 18th birthday. We were fortunate enough to be able to fly to Florida for this, and we were able to save allot of money using the BOGOF tickets we had saved. This was the first time the boys had ever flown on a plane and boy were they very very excited about it. Due to the stipulations of our coupons we had to be open to flights that were chosen by the travel agent. I think this means that they are using the BOGO tickets to fill seats which normally are not sold before a scheduled flight. This meant that we were split. It was Wendy, myself, Tiffany, and Nathan on plane #1, and Gene, Cameron on Plane #2. All it all it was smooth. Wendy had it planned to a tee as usual so we were off of our flight and waiting for a car when Gene and Cameron were getting off of their flight. We also carried all baggage for the entire family so it was all on one plane.
The graduation party was very nice. The kids had a blast getting a chance to hang out with all the cousins, playing video games and swimming to wee hours of the night. It was nice to see the family again. Each year that goes by it does get more difficult to get everyone together at one time. We finished our trip by taking Carly to the local mall to get her ears pierced as a birthday gift.
What else…. Oh yes Camping. Camping season officially started in June. The family has been anxiously waiting to get ole’ Bertha (the motorhome) out of storage and tuned for the season. So far it has been a blast and there is a lot more scheduled for the season. We have been geocaching (I will explain more later), hiking, bike riding, swimming, and alot of relaxing. This weekend the boys, myself, and Tiffany are traveling to Mcconnelsville, OH with friends to do some camping and some Paint Ball…. Woooohooo. It will be our first time. After talking about it extensively, reading about it, and researching I have no doubt that it will be a blast and a great addition to our Spring, Summer, and Fall camping seasons. The camping area is supposed to be in the middle of “no where” with no electric, water, and cell phone service but on the plus side it is very remote, quiet, and diverse. Does any one remember that movie Deliverance? Anyway because of the remoteness and long drive it’s going to be tents only because Bertha likes to eat Unleaded Fuel for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I will definitely provide an update on this trip when we return, I promise.
Well that’s all I have time for now. We will get moving on the updates so they should start coming regularly throughout the summer.
If you haven’t seen it already we have recent photos on the homepage (left side) and any new photos added to Flickr are automatically posted to this website so go take a look.
